Sometimes, just when you think things are going your way, LIFE HAPPENS! I started this blog to give women 50+ incentive and inspiration to live life to the fullest, no matter what their age. Then, low and behold, I find myself needing the same kind of inspiration!
I recently had my annual mammogram, which is normally just a routine thing that is uncomfortable but necessary. Well, this time, I was told that my right breast was "dense" and that they needed to run an ultrasound to be able to see better. Unfortunately the ultrasound showed a "spot" that was worrisome to the radiologist. So this led to a biopsy, which did not yield good results.
This is never something a woman wants to hear, and I am no better than the next woman. I literally fell apart once I was out of the doctor's office. But after all that, I called my son and he and my daughter-in-law (bless them) put everything into perspective, and made me see that this was not the end of the world as I first believed. After all, the reason for getting regular mammograms is to catch something early. Mine is not a lump, not even palpable. So that means it was caught very early. The doctor said a lumpectomy should do it, with perhaps a little radiation afterward. Then I spoke with my daughter-in-law's mom, who has also had this procedure. She is fine now. But I had to have that reassurance.
Since then, I have traveled to my son's home, and arranged to see another doctor where he lives. I feel more comfortable with the care I would get in a bigger city with more cutting edge technology. And I have had surgery here before (hip replacement a year ago). I will have the family support I need here with him and his family.
All this story is to point out that life does happen, and when we least expect it. We all need support, encouragement, incentive, and inspiration, whether it is to get us through serious health issues or just getting us out of our comfort zone and living life. I am so thankful to have other 50+ women encouraging and inspiring me, no matter what I deal with in life. And I hope that, through this website and my blogs, I can be the same inspiration to others.
So I encourage YOU to go out there, and be the best you can be, no matter what life throws you. Look for those friends and family who will be that support and encouragement you need, not someone who spouts "woe is me" to you. As my son says, it is just a season in life. Every time you encourage others, you are also giving yourself encouragement.
And I encourage all women, no matter your age, to get those regular mammograms. We have awesome medical technology, but it does no good if we don't take advantage of it.
So continue to encourage, inspire and support all the women in your life. It will come back to you ten-fold!
